Motor Vehicle Information:

All Motor Vehicle Records are confidential.  Disclosure of Colorado motor vehicle registration information is confidential. Record searches requested for solicitation purposes, by direct marketing agencies, or by the media, are not permitted.

Federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (DPPA)- Federal statute 18 U.S.C. section 2721 governing the privacy and disclosure of personal information retained by state Motor Vehicle Departments requiring individuals searching records to provide a valid reason for the request in order to receive the information. DPPA protects: name, address, phone numbers, DOB, email, SVID, personal descriptors, SN, signatures, taxes paid, PWD information and photo. 

For a person to purchase a record other than their own, they must declare their intended use of that record, or they must have the signature of the person of interest authorizing them to inspect the record. Record / history searches are available for vehicles based on VIN, title number or license plate by the Department (only one license plate number per request).

If there is a record in the motor vehicle system, the search will provide the vehicle description, the lien information (if there is a lien on the vehicle), and the name and mailing address of the owner will be provided, when appropriate Title and/or Registration Information Request (Motor Vehicle Record / History Search) C.R.S 42-1-206, C.R.S 24-72-204(7)

Anyone requesting motor vehicle or driver Information must submit a DR 2489A Motor Vehicle Record Request. All requests must be completed by the Department of Revenue, C.R.S 42-1-206(2)(b).

A Letter of Authorization or a Corporate Resolution to Borrow/Grant Collateral Letter granting permission for the agent to act on behalf of the company and the agent’s Secure and Verifiable Identification information are required for any authorized moped dealers to perform registration search transactions or to obtain moped stickers.

The Driver’s Privacy Protection Act prohibits the release of owner(s) and lienholder(s) information to the purchaser.

Logan County Motor Vehicle can’t give you information on a vehicle if you are not the owner listed on the vehicle.
