MOTOR VEHICLE INFORMATION:

Colorado Revised Statute 42-6-102 (15) inoperable vehicle means a vehicle that is not roadworthy.  Do you have an inoperable vehicle? 

Qualifications: With the implementation of Vehicle Registration and Certificate of Title (HB22-1388) created an inoperable vehicle decal. 

Any owner of an inoperable vehicle that is not driven on the roadways of this state and is kept on private property, qualifies for this use type if the vehicle is undergoing maintenance, repair, restoration, rebuilding or renovation must pay an annual specific ownership tax. 

When the taxes are paid, the owner will receive a decal as proof of registration to be placed in the vehicle rear window.  No surcharges or fees will be charged if the owner keeps the vehicle on private property for the purposes of maintenance, repair restoration, rebuilding, or renovation. 

Requirements: A DR2910 inoperable vehicle declaration form is required to be completed by the customer. 

When the inoperable vehicle use type is used during a vehicle registration activity, registration fees will be excluded, except Clerk Hire Fee, Specific Ownership Tax and Prior Ownership Tax and material fee will be charged.

  • Late fees will be assessed for a renewal of an inoperable vehicle past its grace period. 

What do you do when the vehicle is fixed and is now roadworthy? 

Requirements: After establishing a vehicle is roadworthy, customers can remove the inoperable use type for their vehicle by submitting a DR2704 Certified Vin Inspection. 

  • Annual registration fees will be assessed, a new plate, stickers and registration will be given to the customer for the now roadworthy vehicle. 

Collector Plate Inoperable Decals will not be issued at the county level.  Collector Plate Inoperable Decals will be issued at the state level with the Colorado Department of Revenue.   All other inoperable decals other than collector plate will be issued at the county level.
