Assessor's Office Duties
The Assessor's Office is responsible for discovering, listing, and valuing all property within the county as directed by state laws. It is the duty of the Assessor to locate, identify and value all taxable property within the County.
The Assessor is the only locally elected official audited annually by the General Assembly. The audit insures compliance with state laws, standards and guidelines in regard to property values and procedures used to determine that property is valued fairly and equitably, using generally accepted professional appraisal techniques and methods.
The Assessor is committed to fairness and works diligently to ensure that no one pays more or less than their appropriate portion of the property tax burden.
